HABEAS CORPUS is our only remedy.
We need to support the restoration of habius. see below.

Protecting the writ of habeas corpus is protecting ourselves and other
family law litigants.
I'm not crazy about the Dem. Party (or the Rep's
either), but I do like the
work Sen. Leahy is doing to try to restore habeas corpus.
I tried to help one mom in NY where a judge locked
her up 3 YEARS without
a jury trial, for contempt. In a situation like that, habeas corpus
is the remedy.
Most people think of habeas corpus as getting
criminals out of jail. But it is a major tool in protecting
civil liberties---
-and in protecting family law litigants!!! !

Dear Robin,
Thank you contacting your Senators earlier this week
about the Habeas Corpus Restoration Act. You
joined nearly 6,000 other Leahy for
Vermont online community members to send
letters to 86 Senators
in support of my Habeas Corpus Restoration Act. Thanks to
these efforts, Washington now knows where
the
American people stand on this critical issue. Yesterday, the
Washington Post lauded
our efforts:
"The sense of deja vu is overwhelming. Once again,
lawmakers are promising to introduce legislation
allowing prisoners at Guantanamo Bay to challenge their detentions. Once again, congressional
Republicans are vowing to defeat it, as they have before. The deja vu should
stop here.
"By denying hundreds of detainees the most basic of legal rights, that of
challenging their detention,
the Bush administration has continued to damage the
country's image and moral authority abroad.
No government should be allowed to
hold people indefinitely without affording them a chance to
challenge that
detention. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.), ranking
minority member Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) and others planned to introduce the Habeas
Corpus Restoration
Act of 2007 this week

Senators.
On Tuesday, the Senate went through the night to try
to overcome filibusters underway on several
Iraq-related amendments. So far
those efforts have failed and the annual Defense Authorization Bill,
for now,
has been sidelined. That also means we will not have the opportunity to vote on
our legislation
this week. Though we will have to be patient a little bit
longer, this delay also gives us more time to
continue urging individual
Senators to restore habeas corpus.
I will continue to fight for the passage of this
restoration bill as soon as possible, as a stand-alone bill
or as an amendment
to the Defense Authorization Bill. Either way, I will not back down from this
fight
until our habeas corpus liberties have been restored. As the Iraq
debate continues, I need your help
to keep up our momentum and ensure that the
restoration of habeas corpus remains at the top of the
Senate's agenda.
Pass the Washington Post editorial along to
your friends, neighbors, and family, and urge
them to follow your lead by
contacting their home-state Senators.
Thank you for your perseverance as we move ever
closer to regaining one of our fundamental
constitutional liberties.
Sincerely,
Patrick Leahy
U.S. Senator
